During an appearance Monday on “Hannity,” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was asked to respond to the news that “top Republicans” provided Fox News Network with opposition research on him as he pushes to defund Obamacare.
“This has been one of the strangest weeks I’ve ever had in Washington,” host Chris Wallace said on Fox News Sunday. “As soon as we listed Ted Cruz as our featured guest this week, I got unsolicited research and questions, not from Democrats but from top Republicans, to hammer Cruz.”
Host Sean Hannity referenced Wallace’s admission and asked Cruz for his reaction.
Displaying a calm demeanor that’s sure to drive his opponents nuts, the Texas Republican refused to take the bait.
“Folks can do whatever they want to resist change, and there are a lot of people who’ve been in Washington a long time that are fearful of change, fearful of risk, they’re fearful of anything that changes the clubby way Washington does business,” Cruz said.
After reminding viewers that the country is going broke, that we have a $17 trillion national debt and that Obamacare is “a total trainwreck,” Cruz made it clear that he would not engage in the mudslinging.
“No matter what insults others choose to hurl at me, and in the last few weeks they’ve picked quite a few… I’m not gonna respond in kind,” he concluded.
