White House staff members apparently woke up to the fact that their boss has a huge ego problem. They even reportedly adopted a new name for him — “Obam-me.”
Columnist Peggy Noonan, who formerly served as speech writer and special assistant to then-President Ronald Reagan, mentioned the rumor in her latest Wall Street Journal column:
There was gossip. Apparently some White House staffers have a new nickname for the president: “Obam-me,” because it’s all about him and his big thoughts. I guess the second-term team is not quite as adoring as the first.
If the gossip is true, all I can say is welcome to the club. Here are a few examples of the president’s “it’s all about me” attitude:
He keeps referring to our U.S. armed forces as “my military” — most recently when answering a question posed at the G20 press conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, according to Fox News. That may seem a minor point to some, but many — including me — find it galling.
To celebrate the birth of England’s royal baby, the president tweeted — what else? — a photo of himself:

The president’s eulogy to the late Sen. Daniel Inouye in December became a speech about him, a fact not lost even on a writer at the far-left Slate.com, who wrote, “President Obama was supposed to eulogize the memory of Sen. Daniel Inouye. Instead he told us about his favorite summer vacation.”
President Obama’s announcement in May 2011 that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been killed was so peppered with first-person references that one would have thought he’d done the deed himself. As George Landrith wrote in The Daily Caller, “it was stunning how frequently Obama used the words ‘I,’ ‘me’ and ‘my’ in his speech. He made it all about himself.”
We learned only recently that Obama spent much of the time playing cards with former special assistant Reggie Love during the U.S. Navy SEAL’s raid on the bin Laden complex, saying, “I can’t watch this entire thing.”
To honor the 57th anniversary of Rosa Parks’ refusal to sit in the back of a bus, Obama tweeted — what else — another photo of himself:

I have no idea whether the “Obam-me” rumor is true — but if so, it’s certainly understandable. It’s all about him.
