The wheels of justice are turning painfully slow for the family of murdered Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, whose 2010 death exposed the disastrous ATF gun-walking operation called Fast and Furious.
On Thursday, Mexican authorities captured a third suspect wanted by the FBI in connection with Terry’s murder, leaving two suspects still at large.
Ivan Soto-Barraza is now facing extradition to the U.S. where he will face first and second-degree murder charges, Fox News reported.
“Brian’s family is pleased to hear of another arrest and we remain hopeful that two additional fugitives believed to be in Mexico will be arrested,” Terry’s cousin Robert Heyer said on behalf of the family, according to Reuters. “Questions remain unanswered about the death of Brian, including details on the failed gun trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious.”
In June 2012, months after Congressional hearings exposed administration lies and cover-ups regarding the botched Operation Fast and Furious, the House voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in civil and criminal contempt of Congress after he failed to turn over subpoenaed documents.
When President Obama invoked executive privilege to prevent the documents from being turned over to Congress, House lawyers filed a lawsuit in federal court “seeking to force the administration to turn over records they believe show a cover-up,” Fox reported.
Now, a decision in that lawsuit is expected within the next three weeks.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa spoke to Fox News last week on the status of Fast and Furious and the federal lawsuit:
When you consider that the attorney general himself may very well have been complicit in knowing that was a false statement and insisting they continue to stand by it for 10 months — you do have a serious question if Congress can fairly evaluate these individuals staying in office and staying in their jobs if in fact they can’t be counted on to tell the truth.
The American people were lied to on national TV that no guns were allowed to be walked and they (the Justice Department) kept to that statement for 10 long months while the Terry family suffered questions over the loss of their son.
Those who were involved in knowing that it was false, communicating that it was false and perpetuated that false statement need to be held accountable or at least exposed.
Meanwhile, Terry’s family awaits a ruling in its $25 million wrongful death lawsuit filed against ATF and the gun store that sold the weapons used in Terry’s murder “claiming both knew or should have known the weapons would kill,” according to Fox.
