In an epic Michelle Malkin vs. Juan Williams debate over what to do about the crisis in Syria, the two “Hannity” panelists scolded each other Thursday with lectures about isolationism and patriotism.
“Does it concern you that we don’t know the people we are giving arms to right now?” host Sean Hannity asked the pair.
Malkin gave examples of adults and children who were being slaughtered on a daily basis.
Williams said it’s not clear who is receiving arms from the United States.
“Who are we helping?” Hannity asked.
“We want to make sure that the use of chemical weapons stops here,” Williams said. “But more importantly we want to signal very clearly to the Iranians that their advance on chemical weapons, nuclear weapons, gotta stop. Same thing to North Korea. Same thing to the people that you’re concerned about, the terrorists, the al-Qaida acolytes. We just say to them, ‘That is unacceptable.’”
When Hannity disagreed, Williams asked if he was “an isolationist all of a sudden.”
“It’s not called isolationism, Juan. It’s called patriotism,” Malkin said. “It’s called putting American interests first and not emboldening and empowering and enabling the people who threaten American children, American soldiers, American lives. I mean the problem is that when you talk about vital American interests, there are a majority of Americans in this country who doubt the rodeo clown in the white house and his clown car of humanitarian intervention.”
