Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would not have used chemical weapons — allegedly — had President George W. Bush warned him not to.
Speaking at a town hall event Friday in Wetumpka, Ala., Sessions said he wasn’t “trying to be partisan” and didn’t want to “weaken the president,” but found President Obama to basically be weak enough already, as reported by Mediaite.
“If President Bush had told Bashar Assad, ‘You don’t use chemical weapons or you are going to be sorry. We are coming after you, this will be a consequence you will not want to bear,’ I don’t believe he would have used them,” Sessions said.
“This is about the eleventh time, they tell us, that poison gas has been used in Syria,” he continued. “I guess they figured we weren’t going to do anything.”
