Jon Stewart returns with bulls eye on Obama; pounds him on Syria

Comedian Jon Stewart’s return to “The Daily Show” Tuesday night after a 12-week hiatus was marked with heaps of scathing sarcasm directed at President Barack Obama’s bravado toward Syria. Stewart said that if the president wanted to exhibit true “maturity,” he’d stay out of the conflict.

“You got to see the red line,” Stewart began. “You can’t use chemicals to use your own people. You have to do it organically,” which he described as “lead ordinance.”

He then pointed out that the U.S. never raised any alarms or threw down any “red lines” when Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons against his arch enemy, Iran.

“So given the fact that we have no idea who has control over these chemical weapons in a failed Syria, remind us again why we have to do this?” he says.

After running a few clips of pundits claiming we would look weak if it didn’t attack Syria, Stewart concludes, “We have to bomb Syria because we are in seventh grade.”

And with that observation, he defines what the red line actually is.

“And the red line — the red line that they crossed is actually a dick-measuring ribbon,” he notes. “Why does holding back look like weakness? Isn’t it maturity?”

In the late 60s, “America’s newsman,” CBS anchor Walter Cronkite, criticized then-President Lyndon Johnson for keeping the United States embroiled in the Vietnam War. With that, LBJ decided that a re-election bid in 1968 would be futile, stating, “if I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost the country.”

Liberal Barack Obama just lost liberal Jon Stewart.

This clip depicts Stewart’s return to the show, but his 12 weeks in the Middle East have changed him — drastically. Attempts by guest host John Oliver to revive him turn him, instead, into personalities like Larry the Cable Guy and Miley Cyrus (complete with foam finger) as well as historical figures such as Moses and Adolph Hitler. Hilarious!
