James Letten, assistant dean at Tulane University and a former U.S. attorney, let loose a profanity-filled tirade at conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas film crew on Tulane’s New Orleans campus recently.

O’Keefe was there to give Letten a copy of his latest book, “Breakthrough: Our Guerilla War to Expose Fraud and Save Democracy,” which covers the criminal case against him for allegedly attempting to tamper with phones at the New Orleans office of Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La, according to U.S. News & World Report.

In 2010, Letten briefly pursued a felony prosecution of O’Keefe in that case until he recused himself. According to O’Keefe, someone in the prosecutor’s office leaked confidential information about him to the press during his detention.

The charges in the case were eventually reduced to a single misdemeanor count of entering a federal building under false pretenses. O’Keefe pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years’ probation, 100 hours of community service and a $1,500 fine.

O’Keefe, best known for the undercover videos that would lead to the downfall of ACORN, paid a visit to Letten’s home and politely asked his wife to accept a copy of the book before showing up at the Tulane campus.

“Listen to me, hobbits,” Letten said upon confronting O’Keefe. “Pay attention to me, listen to me. You went to my house, you terrorized my wife, you’re violating federal law, you’re violating state law, you’re trespassing. You’re a nasty, little cowardly spud. All of you, you’re hobbits. You are less than I can ever tell you. You are scum. Do you understand?”

He continued: “I didn’t prosecute your case a**hole. …You spend your life as a snail, you do weird little political things, you’re a horse’s a**, stay away from my family, stay away from me, stay away from my house, stay away from this institution.”

Letten, surrounded by campus police, appeared to throw a copy of O’Keefe’s book back at him, after O’Keefe had just handed it to him. Incredibly, security briefly detained O’Keefe, apparently for allowing himself to be struck by flying books — he was released a short time later.
