Conservative columnist George Will made a profound statement on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday’s saying the breakdown of the African American family was to blame for much of today’s problems in the black community. MSNBC’s Ed Schultz blasted him for it on Monday.
Will quoted a report by former U. S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, D-N.Y., who in his younger days said there was an impending crisis due to young black children being raised without fathers.
“What do you say we compound the problem by making sure we don’t fund their schools and their neighborhoods?” Schultz said Monday on “The Ed Show” of Will’s statements. “This isn’t the first time George Will has blamed single mothers for the failures of conservative policies.”
Shultz and his panel blamed Republicans for not supporting issues that help single moms.
Joan Walsh, Salon.com’s editor-at-large, complimented CNN contributor Donna Brazile for not “strangling” Will for the comments he made.
“Conservatives don’t want to give them any reproductive health care rights,” TheGrio.com contributor, Zerlina Maxwell said, adding that conservatives don’t support government programs for early education and child care.
“He’s completely out of touch,” she said of Will. “He needs black friends.”
