The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death of an armed robber with a rap sheet who brought a knife to a gun fight and came out the loser for it.
Fredrick Lorenza Kelly Jr., 32, approached Domino’s Pizza deliveryman Bryon Park, 54, brandishing a large knife when Park had returned to his vehicle after having delivered a pie to a West Melbourne, Fla. motel room. What Kelly didn’t know was that his intended victim was also armed — with a gun, according to the Brevard Times.
When Kelly demanded money and threatened to kill Park if he didn’t hand over his cash, Park reportedly pulled his gun and shot the would-be robber.
Kelly has a lengthy rap sheet, that includes armed robbery, aggravated battery and false imprisonment.
“Preliminary evidence in the case demonstrates that the intended victim of the robbery acted in self defense while being robbed by a violent criminal who was armed with a knife,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said. “The suspect in this investigation was released from prison in 2009, after serving a reduced sentence for similar violent crimes.”
