An American Muslim convert who is now a senior al Qaeda leader is urging more attacks on U.S. embassies, and appealing to wealthy Muslims to put bounties on the lives of U.S. ambassadors, according to a Reuters report.
And in doing it, he highlighted again, and in stark relief, the twin problems the Obama administration and the country’s media court in pretending the war on terrorism is being treated like a law-enforcement problem: it’s basically a lie to the American people to appease a liberal base; and it doesn’t deter real enemies.
Just ask Adam Gadahn, the native of Oregon who converted to Islam while in California at the age of 17, and has been an al Qaeda operative since the late 1990s.
“These prizes (bounties) have a great effect in instilling fear in the hearts of our cowardly enemies,” Gadahn, a native of Oregon who converted to Islam at 17, said in a video posted on websites used by Islamist militants.
“They also encourage hesitant individuals to carry out important and great deeds in the path of Allah.”
According to Reuters, the Yemen-based branch of al Qaeda put a bounty of 3 kilograms of gold (106 ounces) on the life of the U.S. to Yemen, or about $23,500 in Yemeni currency for the lives of American soldiers.
Gadahn knows a thing or two about bounties. He has a price on his own head of $1 million being offered by the FBI. He’s been indicted in California on charges of treason and providing material support for terrorism, according to Fox News.

The American-reared Gadahn knows very well how much weight a matter of law carries in the land of the gun and the bomb. His website proclamations demanding the deaths of more American diplomats show how much he cares for such legal niceties.
And to be fair, he’s probably right.
President Obama himself unintentionally highlighted the problem during his news conference Aug. 9 before heading off to vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, when he portentously announced a “sealed indictment” related to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
A “sealed indictment” probably makes terrorists shudder across the Islamic Crescent.
Osama bin Laden had a $25 million price on his head. It’s no longer operative. Anwar al-Awlaki, the New Mexico native, met his end in an American drone strike in Yemen.
Despite his ties to known or suspected terrorist activities – or terrorist activities like the 2009 Fort Hood attack that go unacknowledged by the Obama administration for political reasons – there was no reward for him.
So, on the terrorism scale, that puts Gadahn somewhere between bin Laden and al-Awlaki on the to-do list for American counterterror operations, and both men ended the same way.
Indictment or no indictment, Gadahn is likely headed for the same fate. It would be nice if Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and – most of all – the Obama-loving media, admitted this sham once and for all.
