Trump on 2016 run: ‘I’d spend whatever it took’ to win

Billionaire Donald Trump made the rounds for the first time in Ames, Iowa this weekend: attending the Iowa State Fair, speaking to the Family Leadership Summit and giving interviews to ABC and NBC Sunday talk shows.

Is a presidential run on the horizon for 2016 ?

In an ABC “This Week” interview on Sunday, Trump told Jonathan Karl he wouldn’t make a final decision until after the 2014 midterm elections.

“I filed applications last time, and I actually filed my net worth,” Trump told Karl, claiming to be worth $10 billion. “People were really shocked at the number. Now the number’s bigger than it was. How strong the company is, how much cash, the whole thing. It’s a beautiful company. It’s a company like this country should look.”

“If you were to run for president, how much would you be willing to spend?” Karl asked.

“If I made a decision, I’d spend a lot,” Trump said. “If I did it, I would spend whatever it took.”

Karl quizzed Trump on whether U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, would be eligible for the presidency given his Canadian birth.

“I don’t know the circumstances,” Trump said. “I heard, somebody told me he was born in Canada. That’s really his thing.”

Trump’s interview covered a number of topics, including his pursuit of a copy of Obama’s birth certificate, his prediction that Hillary Clinton would be “very tough” to beat if she is the Democratic nominee in 2016, and Mitt Romney’s loss in 2012.
