The Obamas are off for yet another summer vacation, and first dog Bo is joining them, though by separate travel accommodations. Word has it that the president’s Portuguese water dog, arrived at Martha’s Vineyard with a handler, on one of two MV-22 Ospreys.
The hybrid aircraft, which takes off like a helicopter but flies like a plane, transported the family dog in what was considered the Osprey’s first trip for a presidential family holiday, according to The Telegraph.
The British newspaper appears to be the only major media outlet reporting Bo’s travel plans.
A CBS report said the two aircraft carried White House staff, media and Secret Service, but the story made no mention of Bo. It did report that the Obama daughters, Sasha and Malia would arrive separately, but provided no further information.
The Vineyard Gazette expounded on the Saturday arrival of the president and first lady:
Marine One touched down at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport just before 4 p.m. carrying President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Two Osprey MV-22 helicopters landed ahead of time with staff and press. The president and First Lady left Marine One and boarded a black car.
Two white mesh bags full of basketballs were unloaded from one of the Osprey, and first dog Bo also traveled on an Osprey. He waited patiently on the tarmac with a handler.
The Obama’s daughters were not with them and reportedly have not arrived yet.

“Obviously, when you’re President of the United States, you carry a little baggage when you travel,” White House spokesman, Jay Carney, told pool reporters. “And that’s true whether it’s on a summit, international meeting, a domestic trip, or for a vacation. I know he’s looking forward very much to some down time with his family. I’m sure he’ll see some friends.”
But not all townspeople are happy about the visit. Because of the change in accommodations, this year’s presidential visit will be more burdensome on local residents.
On Wednesday the town sent an email to town residents, saying “anyone aggrieved by this closing should email or call the White House,” according to the Gazette.
