U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz said he expects any biographies of Hillary Clinton planned by CNN and NBC to amount to a love-letter from the networks to their new favorite liberal politician.
“I don’t think anybody is surprised to discover that the mainstream media are in love with Hillary Clinton,” Cruz told the Washington Post on Saturday before addressing the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa.
“And indeed I would expect both of those movies to be released on Valentine’s Day,” he said.
Because Clinton is widely expected to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus wants the networks to abandon the projects: a documentary by CNN; a miniseries on NBC.
To pressure the networks, Priebus is threatening to cut them out of RNC-approved GOP presidential primary debates.
Cruz declined to say whether he supported Priebus’s move.
“The RNC will make its own decisions,” he said.
In his speech to the delegates, though, Cruz stuck by a decision of his own: To work with fellow conservatives to deny funding for the full implementation of Obamacare when Congress reconvenes in September.
Other top Republicans, including former presidential nominee Mitt Romney, have warned that a funding fight over Obamacare could backfire on the GOP, leaving the country stuck with the national health-care overhaul anyway and costing the party support from voters who could blame it for disrupting the government unnecessarily.
Cruz told the summit that was a risk worth taking, according to the Associated Press.
“The only way we win this fight is if the American people rise up and hold our elected officials accountable,” he said.
