Being that it’s August and Congress is in recess, it must be time for those raucous town halls we hear so much about.
One such town hall held Thursday in Texas fit the billing as Daniel Moran, a.k.a. “The Barking Atheist,” questioned Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, about voting against atheist chaplains in the armed services.
Burgess responded, “Yeah, I thought that was a dumb idea. I’ll do it again.”
The audience exploded with cheers and applause in support of Burgess, with one man shouting, “There are no atheists in foxholes!”
Moran tried to ask Burgess why a belief in god is necessary for a chaplain, but the attendees began to boo and shout “Throw him out!”
The video below was posted by Moran, who clearly planned the confrontation.
An atheist chaplain is an oxymoron considering a chaplain is a minister of the faith — someone who believes in a deity of a spiritual life. Atheism is the very rejection of belief in the existence of deities.
In the end, it amounts to little more than an attempt by secularists to redefine what a chaplain is. As for Burgess, he concluded by saying “when I go put [in] that voting card, if someone says to vote against your fundamental core beliefs, you got the wrong kid.”
