Dem. congressman: ‘There’s plenty of money, it’s just the government doesn’t have it’

At a recent meeting of progressives, Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., demonstrated a fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives by suggesting that the money we earn is not our own — it belongs to the government.

While touting H.R. 6411, the Inclusive Prosperity Act, which would impose a tax on the transfer of securities, Ellison told the gathering, “The bottom line is we’re not broke, there’s plenty of money, it’s just the government doesn’t have it.”

After running through a litany of individuals who would support such a tax, Including George Soros and Paul Krugman, Ellison said, “The government has a right, the government and the people of the United States have a right to run the programs of the United States. Health, welfare, housing – all these things.”

Ronald Reagan once noted the basic difference between Democrats and Republicans. “Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July,” he said. “Democrats believe every day is April 15th.”
