Congratulations to the Federal Bureau of Investigation who’s successful nationwide, three-day series of raids led to the rescue of 105 teenaged victims of prostitution, one child as young as 9-years old, and the arrests of 150 pimps, the Bureau announced Monday.
“Every FBI field office in the nation was involved” in “Operation Cross Country,” Fox News reported Ronald Hosko, assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, said during a Monday press conference.
“Child sex trafficking remains ‘one of the most prevalent, violent and unconscionable crimes in our country,’” with children forced into prostitution between the ages of 13-17, Hosko said, according to the article.
Sadly, “most of the children come from either foster care homes or are considered runaways,” Hosko explained, adding, “Once the pimp identifies that void and makes every attempt to fill it, a dependency between the child and the perpetrator develops.”
The national organization, “Center for Missing and Exploited Children,” also offered congratulations to the FBI and the some 230 state and local agencies that participated in the operation.
According to the FBI’s YouTube description of the coverage of the raids:
Operation Cross Country—a three-day nationwide enforcement action focusing on underage victims of prostitution—concluded with the recovery of 105 sexually exploited children and the arrests of 150 pimps and other individuals.
The sweep took place in 76 cities and was carried out by the FBI in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as part of the Bureau’s Innocence Lost National Initiative. It is the seventh and largest such enforcement action to date.
