‘Dumb and Dumber’ star blames memorial vandalism on corporate greed

Lincoln-Memorial

Sadly, the Lincoln Memorial was vandalized in Friday’s early morning hours. Although apparently the act of delinquents possessing more of a behavior problem than brain power, actor Jim Carrey ascribed more sinister meaning to the act — corporate greed.

The Washington Post reported that light-green paint had been splattered on various parts of the 19-foot-tall marble statue of Lincoln, including the floor of the memorial, but no words or symbols were left.

Because Lincoln is one of the nation’s most beloved presidents, the memorial, located at the west end of the Washington Mall opposite the Washington Memorial, is one of D.C.’s most popular tourist attractions.

As soon as the vandalism was discovered, the memorial was closed down and remained so most of the day Friday as crews removed the paint.

“Carol Bradley Johnson, a spokeswoman for the National Mall and Memorial Parks division of the National Park Service, called the incident ‘heartbreaking,’”as the Post reported:

When Hollywood loon Carrey got a whiff of what happened, he smelled a backlash against corporate greed. I can only assume it was the green paint that tipped him off.

Carrey tweeted:

He was rewarded with a flurry of replies, but my favorite was from BKParallax, who put Carrey in his place with this tweet:

Sigmund Freud once observed that not everything has a sexual meaning, saying, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.” And sometimes green paint is just green paint.
