As President Obama hit the road this week to do what he does best — campaign — a group of college students found themselves being labeled a threat to his safety and turned away from a speech given Wednesday.

With Obama pivoting to jobs and the economy for the umpteenth time, a group of ten College Republicans were dubbed a security threat and refused admittance to his speech at the University of Central Missouri, according to The College Fix.

The students had tickets to the event and had waited in a long line, but were turned away at the door by security personnel who told the group it was for the president’s safety, said College Republicans state treasurer Courtney Scott.

“It just didn’t make any sense,” Scott told The Fix. “A lot of us traveled several hours to watch the speech.”

Donning “tea party T-Shirts [and] patriotic or Republican-inspired clothing,” as the report noted, the students had participated in a protest earlier in the day.

Relegated to a “public speech area” on campus that was not within eyesight or earshot of people who were waiting in line to see the president, as reported by The Fix, the Mizzou Republicans joined others in a peaceful protest of Obama’s economic policies.

While around 2,500 others were granted admission to the event, the students were not only rejected, but told to leave the vicinity and stay several hundred yards away from the facility.

“Regardless of one’s political party it would have been a great opportunity to hear from the president,” Scott told Campus Reform. “I would never want to turn down that opportunity and am disappointed we didn’t get to see him in person.”
