Forget the government buyback programs that destroy guns after collecting them. The Armed Citizen Project is a private program that gives the guns to single mothers and the urban poor.
âWe see this as a buyback we can believe in, one that removes old and unused firearms from homes of existing gun owners, and uses them to create new responsible gun owners in our own communities,â Kyle Coplen, the Armed Citizen Projectâs founder, said in a statement from the organization.
The group accepts both monetary and firearm donations. Donated guns are provided, with training, after background checks are performed, according to the statement.
On Aug. 10 the group will have its inaugural National Empowerment Day, with plans to train as many as 500 women, and arm entire neighborhoods in crime-ridden cities.
âWeâve combined Joe Bidenâs love of shotguns with Obamaâs love of redistribution,â Caplen said.
The group is expanding its Redistribution of Firepower Program to Texas and Florida, offering benefits to those who contribute. According to the organizationâs statement:
Residents of Texas and Florida can now donate their unused firearms to ACP, and will receive a number of gifts, including one raffle ticket to win a custom painted AR-15 with custom made, 3-D printed 30-round magazine.
More importantly, donors will receive one transferable âEmpowerment Scholarship,â giving them the opportunity to ensure that ACP trains and arms members of their own community. âWe all know a single mom or widow, or retiree who would benefit from being trained and armed with a free pump action shotgun.â
The statement said the projectâs goal is to fight the liberal âwar on womenâ â one free shotgun at a time.
