Recording artists and other celebrities continue to weigh in on the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of  Trayvon Martin. Despite a fair trial and a lack of evidence, these public figures play up the racial overtones in the case and claim justice was not served.

Legendary singer Stevie Wonder, while performing in Canada on Sunday, announced he would boycott Florida and told the audience that “for those of you who’ve lost in the battle for justice.. we can’t bring them back. What we can do is we can let our voices be heard.”

“I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again,” Wonder continued.

Never mind that Stand Your Ground played no role in the Zimmerman acquittal. What is not understood is that we all have a natural, inalienable right to defend ourselves from imminent harm, which is separate from this law.

Such irresponsible commentary from those who drive pop culture only adds to the division in this country and overlooks the realities of the Zimmerman case, including that the FBI did an in-depth investigation and found no evidence that Zimmerman acted out of racial hatred.

In all, Stevie Wonder opined for over three minutes on the matter, which brings new meaning to the phrase, “just shut up and sing.”
