HHS dumping $150 million to kick off Obamacare

Does Obamacare cover panic attacks?

As part of the mad, expensive rush to get ready for the Oct. 1 kickoff of Obamacare enrollment,  Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday announced grants totaling $150 million to community health clinics in all 50 states to “help” Americans sign up.

moneytoilet“Health centers are excited to help individuals in their communities take advantage of the benefits of new health insurance coverage options that start January 2014,” chirped Health Resources and Services Administration administrator Mary Wakefield in a statement.

“Having trained, face-to-face assistance in enrollment from trusted resources at local health centers means that more people will get the help they need.”

Maybe. Or maybe no one will know – or care at this point – whether they need it or not.

On Friday, the traditional time to dump bad news, the administration announced it is waiving the need for anyone trying to sign up for Obamacre to prove they’re eligible under employment or income requirements. Just say you want it, it’s yours. No questions asked.

That came right after the announcement on the eve of the Fourth of July holiday – when no one would be paying attention – that the administration is giving up on  a crucial component of the program. That came in the form of a legally dubious delay of a requirement that businesses with 50 or more employees provide health insurance to their workers.

The spin was that businesses weren’t going to be ready for it. The truth is the government is equally unprepared.

Now, HHS is spending another $150 million to hire 2,900 more flunkeys – that’s more than $50,000 a head – to convince people to sign up for benefits that are supposed to start less than six months from now.

It all adds up to bureaucrats going into panic mode over a disaster in the making. And too arrogant, or proud, or wedded to a liberal ideal 100 years in the making to admit it’s way off the rails.

Eighty-one days to crash.
