New Obamacare honor system encourages fraud

Another Friday night news dump. Another sign Obamacare’s a disaster in the making.

Except this part of the disaster is deliberate: A dishonest effort to sign up as many people as possible, regardless of their circumstances or the ultimate cost, to give Obamacare institutional momentum the country won’t be able to stop.

obamacaremoneyWhile normal Americans were enjoying a long holiday weekend, the White House on Friday announced more big delays in the administrative machinery that’s supposed to make Obamacare work, essentially gutting until next year the income-verification requirements for tax credits for people signing up for government-backed health care, according to the Washington Post.

When combined with the delay announced Wednesday in the requirement that businesses with more than 50 employees provide health insurance coverage to their workers, the latest snags mean:

Anyone who says they can’t get health insurance from their job (even if they can) will be able to qualify for a federal tax credit to get their own.

Anyone who says they don’t make enough money to buy insurance on their own (even if they do) will qualify for federal tax credits to purchase it.

See the problem? This is a plan the government is desperate trying to sell – using Los Angeles teenagers, local librarians, and “community organizations” like Enroll America,  whose officers include the health-insurance, hospital and pharmaceutical giants who are going to benefit from this most. And now it’s opening the doors to any willing to enter, whether they need it or not.

It’s not an opportunity for fraud, it’s an invitation.

Here’s Forbes contributor Avik Roy’s take:

“The goal here is plain as day. The Obama administration is laser-focused on making sure that enough Americans enroll onto Obamacare-subsidized health insurance platforms, because if they do, it will be politically impossible for Republicans to repeal Obamacare in the future.

“Politics ain’t beanbag, they say. But deliberately encouraging tens of billions of dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse in order to achieve a political objective is profoundly immoral. It’s a breach of faith with the hard-working taxpayers whose paychecks are being harnessed to a cause many of them don’t support.”

An honor system run by liberals with an agenda. What could go wrong?
