Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio has taken heat from a number of conservatives over his role in the immigration reform legislation passed last week in the Senate. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a vocal opponent of the bill, took a jab at Rubio with a biblical reference via Twitter on Friday.
Shortly after the immigration reform bill passed, President Obama made a congratulatory call to the “gang of eight” senators responsible for crafting the controversial legislation.
White House spokesman Jay Carney told The Hill that after Obama returned from dinner, he spoke with Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-SC, John McCain, R-Ariz., Michael Bennet, D-Colo. and Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.
Breitbart is reporting that Rubio did not take the president’s call, and Obama also failed to reach Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., Bob Menendez, D-N.J. and Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
Carney also said the president spoke to Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and while not divulging details, said Obama urged them to address immigration reform.
