Making school kids into propaganda couriers is something dictatorships do – not democracies.
But the new health insurance exchange, Covered California, is spending almost $1 million to train teenagers in the Los Angeles Unified School District to bring Obamacare propaganda into the family home, according to a report by the Heartland Institute.
As part of a $37 million grant program announced in May, Covered California is training teens to make Obamacare popular with their families – even if polls show it’s widely unpopular throughout the country.
For the children’s work, the school district received a grant of $990,000 from the state exchange, which considers it money well spent.
“We have confidence that the model LA Unified brought to the table will be successful in reaching our target population, which includes family members of students,” Covered California spokeswoman Sarah Soto-Taylor told a Heartland Institute reporter.
Under the grant, the school district will use publicly paid employees to push Obamacare in other ways, like with phone calls home, classroom presentations and employee meetings on the public’s dime.
According to Heartland, the project’s results could mean even more “training” for kids to parrot government messages at home.
“Teens are part of a ‘pilot’ program to test whether young people can be trained as messengers to deliver outreach and limited education to family and friends in and around their homes,” said Gayle Pollard-Terry, a school district spokesman, in an email.
How long will it take to “train” them to bring back messages to the school, informing on the skeptics?
