Government out to ruin NFL Sundays with Obamacare push

There really is nothing sacred.

With Obamacare set to kick off an enrollment of the healthy, young people whose wallets are going to be raided to pay for insurance most don’t want or need but will be forced by the government to buy under penalty of law, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says she’s in talks with the NFL to promote the plan.

Goodbye, gameday.

obamafootballAccording toan article in The Hill, “Sebelius in talks with NFL on promoting Obamacare insurance plans,” Sebelius’s spoilsport minions think enlisting the help of the National Football League through promotions and advertising will make millions of football-loving young men more open to idea of buying health insurance.

Enrollment in the new health-insurance exchange programs that are one of the foundations of the new law is scheduled to begin Oct. 1, with coverage beginning Jan. 1.

In The Hill article, Sebelius cited the example of the Boston Red Sox making a commercial in 2006 promoting the Massachusetts health-care law.

“We know the Red Sox were incredibly effective in Massachusetts … so it’s a logical place to go,” Sebelius said.

Maybe it was effective then and there, but the country isn’t Massachusetts. More importantly, baseball isn’t football. The idea of inserting politics into the national passion isn’t just morally repugnant – it’s crazy.

Football fans drinking beer, eating wings and screaming for their teams do not want their concentration on crucial third-down situations interrupted by anything — much less some nanny-state mouthpiece telling them their bar tab should be paying for someone else’s colonoscopy.

Unless he’s screaming for the other side.
