This is really a mess in the making.
The Oct. 1 kickoff date for the President Obama’s takeover of health care one-sixth of U.S. economy is supposed to be about one-third of the way through the NFL season, but with more than half of the states balking, things aren’t going according to the president’s playbook.
A Government Accountability Office report foresees big trouble when millions of people who thought this Democrat disaster was going to solve their health-care problems.
According to a report in The Hill’s HealthWatch on Wednesday, the federal government is being forced to take the lead in 34 states that haven’t gone along with the plan to create health-care insurance exchanges – a sign of the stubbornness of democracy that Democrats can never seem to get.
In short, the bureaucrats weren’t ready for the opposition, and they’re ready for its results – though the effort to sign up up to 7 million people for the exchanges is already at a half-billion dollars and the administration will have to look for $1.5 billion more to run them next year.
“Whether [the administration’s] contingency planning will assure the timely and smooth implementation of the exchanges by October 2013 cannot yet be determined,” the report said, according to The Hill.
That’s a white-paper way of saying it’s heading over a cliff.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who requested the GAO report, said it’s clear that what’s coming isn’t what the country was sold by Obama’s backers.
“This law has been unpopular and unwieldy every step of the way,” Issa said in a statement, according to The Hill.
“We are seeing a roll out marred by missed deadlines and incomplete programs, but the real harm to patients, doctors, and taxpayers will result from a fully operational ObamaCare.”
When it comes to Obamacare, October really could be the fall.
