In responding to President Obama‘s comments during an inteview with PBS’s Charlie Rose on Monday, Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly declared that “if evidence is produced that any U.S. intelligence agency is reading emails without a specific warrant, Mr. Obama could very well be impeached.”
On Tuesday’s show, as reported by NewsBusters, O’Reilly showed a clip of the interview with Rose:
Obama: “What I can say unequivocally is that if you are a U.S. person, the NSA cannot listen to your telephone calls and the NSA cannot target your emails.”
Rose: “And have not?”
Obama: “And have not. They cannot and have not by law and by rule.”
O’Reilly reminds his viewers that whistleblower Edward Snowden says the NSA is listening to phone calls and reading emails, before pointing out that Snowden has yet to provide any hard evidence of his claim.
The O’Reilly Factor host then proclaimed:
“Mr. Obama is now on the record, and if, if evidence is produced that any U.S. intelligence agency is reading emails without a specific warrant, Mr. Obama could very well be impeached. That’s how important his statement to Mr. Rose really is. There’s no going back now.”
A powerful statement, no doubt.
