As part of AT&T’s new Wireless Emergency Alerts, subscribers with the iPhone 4S and 5 using iOS 6.1 or higher will receive messages of national importance from President Obama whether you want them or not.
Once a user’s operating system is updated, AMBER and Emergency alerts are automatically sent to the phone. However, users have the ability to turn these notification settings off, if desired.
Presidential alerts do not have the opt-out feature.
Interestingly, Verizon addresses this as well.
