Deputy CIA director responsible for Benghazi talking points edits resigns

The deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Morell resigned on Wednesday, and according to a release from the White House, he already has been replaced by former White House counsel and legal advisor to the State Department, Avril Haines.

Morrell recently was revealed as the person who signed off on the edits to the CIA’s Benghazi talking points, which removed all references to previous safety warnings and Al-Quaida activity in the area.

“As much as I would selfishly like to keep Michael right where he is for as long as possible, he has decided to retire to spend more time with his family and to pursue other professional opportunities,” CIA Director John Brennan said in a statement, according to CNS News.

“Michael’s devotion to the men and women of the Agency, our intelligence mission, and to a job well done has been exemplary.”

As if that’s not enough, the shell game continues. After it was said that Morrell wanted to spend more time with his family, the White House announced he has been tapped to serve on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board.

“Whenever someone involved in the rough and tumble of Washington decides to move on, there is speculation in various quarters about the ‘real reason,’” Morell told CNS. “But when I say that it is time for my family, nothing could be more real than that.”

Time will tell.
