Armed with a .357 Magnum revolver, a 72-year-old grandmother scared off a potential burglar by firing a shot at him and then warning him to “get the hell out of here.”
An action that likely saved her and her 85-year-old wheelchair bound World War II veteran husband’s lives, as a ferociously barking Rottweiler inside the home failed to deter the intruder.
Jan Cooper fired the weapon, which is captured on a 911 tape, when she saw 31-year-old Brandon Perez breaking in her back door. As reported by NBC4 News reports.
“Back up, you son of a b—-,” she yelled. “Back up! Get out of here! Get the hell out of here! Get your butt out! Now!”
Jan Cooper fired a single shot. It missed the intruder by just a few inches, deputies said.
“After I shot, there was rage that took hold,” Jan Cooper said. “My husband — he’d never heard me talk like that before.”
Police found Perez, already on probation for burglary, hiding nearby and he was arrested in connection with the attempted break-in.
As for her husband, Bob, a decorated intelligence officer, he had faith in his wife: “I know her capabilities. I know what she can do, if she has to and she’s quite capable.”
Ms. Cooper was adamant once it was all over, “He was not going to come into my home.”
