MSNBC’s Bashir discards facts, blames NRA for Calif. shooting spree

Manipulation is their basic instinct.

Capitalizing again on mental illness turning into tragedy, MSNBC host Martin Bashir went on a rant Monday, blaming the deaths of five people in a shooting spree in Santa Monica, Calif., on “the lobbying powers of the NRA.”

martinbashirIn a typically cynical appeal to viewers’ emotion rather than intellect, Bashir draws a spurious connection between the Santa Monica shooting and the killing of 20 children six months before and 3,000 miles away in Newtown, Conn.

He asserts, without any argument to back it up, that if the country would only get rid of the Second Amendment, crazy people wouldn’t be able to do crazy things.

“At the time (of the Newtown killings), the national sense of mourning was so deep and so wide that many people felt a line had been crossed and new gun safety legislation was now inevitable,” he said.

He then cites a poll showing that after Newton, more than 90 percent of those polled supported background checks on gun purchases.

But as ever, there was no logic in the argument.
Neither background checks nor any other provision of the gun-control laws proposed after Newtown (and killed by Democrats) would have stopped Connecticut killer Adam Lanza from using his mother’s legally purchased weapon to murder her and the children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The FBI is still investigating how the Sana Monica gunman, a 23-year-old with a history of mental problems, obtained the weapons he used to kill his father, brother and three other people before being killed by police, so it’s unclear  whether background checks, or any other proposal, are even relevant.

But for anti-gun propagandists, facts and logic are irrelevant.

It’s emotions that serve their agenda.
