Caution: If you have heart problems, the following may be too much of a tease for you.
Dunkin’ Donuts is about to introduce the new Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich featuring a fried egg and bacon on a split glazed donut. And while this is not exactly international headline news, a peek at the picture, to me, is worthy of a post.
The sweet and savory combo is reminiscent of McDonald’s famous McGriddle first introduced to the public in 2003. The McGriddle (consisting of bacon, egg and American cheese served in between two thick pancakes made with maple flavoring), drew some skeptics in the early days. Like it’s predecessor, the newest addition to America’s fast food breakfast menu is sure to bring on some mixed reviews, but you gotta give it to the innovators whose job it is to keep things interesting in the world of fast food cuisine.
“Our culinary team is always experimenting with both new and existing ingredients and flavors to come up with our creations, which many times are out-of-the-box ideas that lead to really innovative products,” said Stan Frankenthaler, Executive Chef and Vice President of Global Product Innovation.
“The Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich came about by combining some of our favorite Dunkin’ products from different sides of our business and taking it to the next level to experiment with savory and sweet flavors. It’s an incredibly unique sandwich that differentiates our brand and provides our guests with a great experience. The sandwich is fun and quirky and that’s what makes it very ‘Dunkin’”.
The sandwich will become a part of the permanent menu on “National Donut Day”, June 7th, reported the Associated Press.
