Britain’s Blair finally says it: ‘There is a problem within Islam’

In a column in the Mail on Sunday, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair finally tackles the gorilla in the room:

The terrorism being committed in the name of Islam is endemic to the religion itself – a worldview better suited to a blood-drenched 8th century caliphate than a 21st century interconnected world with at least pretensions of democracy.

islamwarrior“There is a problem within Islam – from the adherents of an ideology which is a strain within Islam,” he writes.

“We have to put it on the table and be honest about it. Of course there are Christian extremists and Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu ones. But I am afraid this strain is not the province of a few extremists. It has at its heart a view about religion and about the interaction between religion and politics that is not compatible with pluralistic, liberal, open-minded societies.” (Emphasis added.)

According to the Mail, what finally got Blair to state the obvious was the brutal murder of a British soldier by a self-proclaimed Islamist who bragged about the deed on camera, his blood-stained hands in full view.

But the problem is not just terrorism, Blair writes. It’s the culture and religion that produces it.

“At the extreme end of the spectrum are terrorists, but the world view goes deeper and wider than it is comfortable for us to admit. So by and large we don’t admit it.”

Blair just did. Now, let the denial games begin.
