Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., spoke at the Reagan Presidential Library Friday, and couldn’t resist a dig at the senior senator from Arizona, fellow Republican John McCain.
Paul was asked where the U.S.’s foreign affairs priorities should lie given his membership on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“Defense of the country,” Paul answered, then mindful of where he was speaking, he brought up a famous Reagan quote, “peace through strength,” as opposed to “war through strength.”
Referring to the fact that there seem to be no “good guys” on either side of the Syrian civil war, Paul remarked that some of his colleagues said we “would vet them,” then correlated that with McCain’s recent Syrian trip.
“Apparently, we’ve got a senator over there who had his picture taken with kidnappers– so I don’t know how good a job we’re doing vetting those who are gonna get the arms…”
