The then-7-year-old boy who was suspended for biting a Pop-Tart into the rough shape of a pistol was honored Wednesday night with a lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association.
The boy’s March 1 2-day suspension was intended to demonstrate how seriously school districts take firearm threats by students. Instead, it gained national attention by showing to what preposterous ends the authorities are taking the issue.
The most recent example was the kindergartner who was sent to detention, forced to write a letter of apology and faces possible suspension for displaying a toy Lego gun the size of a quarter.
Although the lifetime NRA membership was very real, its presentation was tongue-in-cheek and included Pop-Tart pistol and gun safety tips.
Josh told the Sun he didn’t know anything about the NRA. When his parents were asked whether any other family members were also NRA members, Josh answered for them, “Nope! Only me.”
The Sun reported:
An attorney has filed an appeal to expunge the suspension from Josh’s record. Anne Arundel County schools spokesman Bob Mosier said Wednesday that he could not comment on the status of the appeal.
The NRA’s immediate past president, David Keene, was the event’s keynote speaker, and Josh was also presented with an autographed photo of the two of them together.
