It’s the stimulus American journalism has been looking for.
Al-Jazeera America, the former cable channel Current TV, has been having a few problems getting off the ground, but the New York Times reports that hiring continues, programming is being explored, and marketers continue to plot ways to steal left-wing, America-hating, anti-Semitic audience-share from MSNBC.
To do that, Al-Jazeera America has decided to change its focus to American domestic concerns and away from major international events – such as Palestinians rioting and burning American flags, Egyptians rioting and burning Coptic churches, or Muslim immigrants rioting in Sweden and slaughtering British soldiers in the streets of England.
“The filter has to be international news that has an impact on American lives,” one Al Jazeera staffer told the Times.
Since the number of American consulates available for prime-time pillage is fairly small – even the Obama administration has its limits – the channel that Al Gore bequeathed to American television has employees hunting up domestic news by “fanning out to report news stories from parts of the country rarely visited by camera crews,” the Times reports.
And that means adding to the payroll hundreds of American journalists being put out of work by the mystifying distrust of Americans for American news organizations, like, say, the New York Times.
“Al Jazeera America has been portrayed by some as a giant stimulus project for American journalism at a time when other news
organizations are suffering cutbacks,” the Times reports.
“This is the first big journalism hiring binge that anyone’s been on for a long time,” former CNN business reporter Ali Velshi told the Times.
Al-Jazeera America’s rollout has been delayed once already, according to the Times. It is now set for “later this summer.”
That would be just in time for a fall entertainment schedule in line with the channel’s philosophy, picture “Two-and-a-half Jews,” “Two Broke Jews,” and “How I Killed Your Jew Mother.”
All of that after the flagship, “World Jews Tonight.”
It’s exactly the stimulus American journalism’s been looking for.
