Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is helping GOP state politics on a national scale.
Bondi, who is now first in line to succeed Gov. Rick Scott until Scott names a new lieutenant governor, is one of four co-chairwomen of a national Republican initiative aimed at electing more Republican women to state offices.
The initiative, called “Right Women, Right Now,” was originally launched last year by the Republican State Leadership Committee.
The ultimate goal is to groom Republican women to become stronger candidates at the national level, state leadership committee Chairman Ed Gillespie told reporters Thursday while announcing the “Right Women” re-launch.
“We believe that one of the ways to grow our Republican Party is to create a strong pipeline of diverse leaders to put some new voices on the escalator to higher office,” Gillespie said, according to an NBC report.
“The first steps of that are these state offices.”
According to the news release, the initiative’s other co-chairwomen are Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman and Tennessee Speaker Beth Harwell.
The effort could help Republicans put a female face on party politics at the state level, according to the release.
“The RSLC remains focused on growing the Republican Party from the ground up and enacting sound policies,” leadership committee President Chris Jankowski said in the release.
“Time and again, women are proven leaders in their communities and the RSLC is dedicated to recruiting, identifying, supporting and electing strong women leaders to state level office.”
