Administration decries human rights violations against Muslims, not Christians

Nigerian warplanes struck camps of the notorious jihadists, Boko Haram, who have terrorized Christians in northeast Nigeria for over a decade. In response, the Obama administration sharply rebuked Nigerian government officials.

Secretary of State John Kerry issued a statement Sunday that read in part that the United States “is deeply concerned about the fighting in northeastern Nigeria following President Jonathan’s declaration of a state of emergency in the Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states,” according to AllAfrica.com

Kerry went on to say that the U.S. is “deeply concerned by credible allegations that Nigerian security forces are committing gross human rights violations, which, in turn, only escalate the violence and fuel extremism.”

The president followed Kerry’s statement up with one of his own, urging the government to “halt violence against Muslims” and “move ahead with economic and political reforms.”

Boko Haram, which literally means, “Western education is sinful,” has escalated its reign of terror over the last four years by burning schools and churches and murdering Christians.

Raymond Ibrahim noted in PJ Media:

The group has bombed or burned hundreds of Christian churches, most when packed for service. The Christmas day church attacks — in 2010, 2011, and 2012 — which left hundreds of Christians dead or dismembered, are the tip of the iceberg of Boko Haram’s hate for Christianity. In the group’s bid to cleanse northern Nigeria of all Christian presence, it has threatened to poison the food eaten by Christians and “to strike fear into the Christians of the power of Islam by kidnapping their women.” The group frequently storms areas where Christians and Muslims are intermingled — from villages to colleges — and singles the Christians out before slitting their throats to cries of Allahu Akbar. Pregnant and elderly Christian women and children have been raped, enslaved, and slaughtered simply for being “infidels.”

Indeed, more Christians are killed in Nigeria by Boko Haram than all other regions of the world combined. Yet the Obama administration has ben strangely silent on these “human rights” violations perpetrated through the group’s savagery.

Nor has the Obama administration protested the “human rights” violations of Christians in other parts of the world. In 2011, the Egyptian military killed dozens of Coptic Christians and injured some 300 others in Maspero after they complained that their churches had been attacked.

When President Obama embarked on what has been popularly called his “apology tour” shortly after his first inauguration, he accused the United States of being “arrogant” and “dismissive,” and even that “at times we sought to dictate our terms.” Perhaps it’s time he review the content of those addresses.
