Rep. King: Immigration bill worse than Obamacare, destroys rule of law

A conservative Iowa congressman finds less to like about the comprehensive immigration reform bill cobbled together by the Senate’s bipartisan Gang of Eight than he does about Obamacare — and he hates Obamacare.

“You all know how badly I despise ObamaCare,” said GOP Rep. Steve King. “I have spent years of my life fighting against ObamaCare. It’s terrible. It diminishes the destiny of America.”

King made his remarks at a press conference he organized with other House GOP opponents of comprehensive immigration reform according to The Hill.

“But if I have to choose,” he continued, “if there was an offer that you are going to get one or the other, and you have to choose one, I would take ObamaCare and try to live with that than ever accept this amnesty plan. Because the amnesty plan is far, far worse than ObamaCare because we can’t put it back in a bottle.”

King’s main objection to the bill is that it tears down that which forms the basis for our country’s founding.

“It destroys the rule of law,” King said according to CNS News.  “And the rule of law is an essential pillar of American exceptionalism, many people come here because we have equal justice under the law.

“If we reward people who break the law, they’re unlikely to raise their children to respect it. The rule of law, at least with regard to immigration, would be destroyed,” King continued.

“And the promise that the law would be enforced from this point forward?  I don’t know how we can listen to that with a straight face.”
