As bad as it may appear, the IRS scandal of targeting tea party and conservative groups is even worse.

It is now being reported that the agency leaked confidential documents from some of these groups to liberal media sources.

Confidential information from groups like Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS made it into the hands of ProPublica late last year, who now reports that the IRS’ Cincinnati office was the source of the documents, according to Twitchy.com.

ProPublica bills itself as an “independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism.”

However, conservative columnist Warner Todd Huston noted in 2007 when ProPublica was first launched that it was “being funded by a pair of left-wing billionaires responsible for funding such groups as the Center for American Progress and MoveOn.org and other far left Democrat backing organizations.”

A list of their current supporters includes George Soros’ Open Society.

The organization reported Monday that “the same IRS office that deliberately targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status in the run-up to the 2012 election released nine pending confidential applications of conservative groups to ProPublica late last year.”

The reports details this claim further:

“In response to a request for the applications for 67 different nonprofits last November, the Cincinnati office of the IRS sent ProPublica applications or documentation for 31 groups. Nine of those applications had not yet been approved — meaning they were not supposed to be made public.”

It seems odd that ProPublica reports on this now, and not in December when it chose to use the confidential information to generate an article targeting Rove.

Ultimately, this egregious violation of the public trust demands that everyone involved be fully identified and, to quote President Barack Obama, that they “feel the full weight of justice.”
