Running counter to the national mood, consumer confidence in Florida is continuing to rise, according to the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
The increase in the Consumer Confidence Index, measured in April by the UF Bureau of Economic Business Research, comes as the national score fell by two points in a University of Michigan survey, according to the Chamber newsletter Scorecard.
The Florida Consumer Confidence Index is measure on a 100-point scale. The latest number, is 79, 4 points higher than March’s figure and 8 points higher than February’s low of 73.
According to Scorecard, the state’s consumers also expect conditions to be better a year from now.
If consumers are as optimistic heading into next fall’s election season, it could make for an interesting spin in the Scott-Crist race for governor.
