White House invites nation’s largest abortion provider to Mother’s Day event

The White House hosted a special event Friday afternoon, which gave President Obama another opportunity to tout the Affordable Care Act. Included in the audience were representatives from Planned Parenthood of America. Ironically, the purpose of the gathering was to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Planned Parenthood has been conducting annual Mother’s Day fundraising events for years, which has always struck me as odd — the largest abortion provider in the country celebrating Mother’s Day.

The group has often used celebrities in the effort, including Blythe Danner, Judy Blume and Gwyneth Paltrow. This year, I suppose, it’s President Obama’s turn, although I don’t think there’s anything official about it.

Katie Pavlich noted in a Townhall article that “92 percent of pregnant women who walk into a Planned Parenthood clinic walk out unpregnant,” and went on to quote LifeNews as follows:

92 percent of pregnant women going to Planned Parenthood get abortions while a handful get prenatal support or adoption referrals. Although Planned Parenthood likes to talk about getting hundreds of millions in federal funding for family planning, the numbers show abortions are up while contraception services are down.

In addition, one of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act the president noted at the Mother’s Day event, according to the White House tweet below, was “access to preventative care — like birth control — with no out-of-pocket costs.”

Disregarding the fact that health insurance premiums have risen appreciably more than the average cost of contraceptives, there’s still a bit of a disconnect for me here — promoting birth control at a Mother’s Day event.

This is how the White House celebrates Mother’s Day — by celebrating un-motherhood? I’m assuming Dr. Kermit Gosnell had to send his regrets — he’s busy defending himself in a Philadelphia courtroom on charges of murdering infants born alive as the result of botched late-term abortions. Well, there’s always next year — maybe.
