Fla. GOP has fun with media’s ‘Obama pivots’ headlines

Sometimes even good press can come back to haunt you.

In a news release Thursday, the Republican Party of Florida had some fun comparing President Obama’s economic record unfavorably with Gov. Rick Scott’s.

The party also had some fun looking at Thursday’s headlines about the president’s trip to Texas this week.

Thursday: The Associated Press: “Obama pressed to do more on jobs, stagnant wages”

The White House: “Obama in Austin, Texas, today as part of his ‘middle class jobs and opportunity tour’”

The release compared them to the coverage of the headlines that greeted the president’s previous jobs “pivot.”

And the one before that.

And the one before that.

And the one before….

Feb. 8: National Journal: “Stung by media’s focus on liberal agenda, Obama pivots back to economy”

July 6, 2012: MSNBC: “The jobs pivot: With the economy struggling, how does President Obama make the case to be re-elected?”

Aug. 5, 2011: Yahoo News: “Obama ‘pivots’ to jobs, but what can he do?”

April 1, 2011: USA Today: “Obama’s day: Turning back to jobs”

Dec. 20, 2010: Obama at White House press conference: “We now have to pivot and focus on jobs and growth”

April 27, 2010: Bloomberg: “Obama to focus on jobs, rural economy in two-day Midwest trip”

Dec. 23, 2009: Politico: “White House plans ‘very hard pivot to jobs’ next month”

Kind of brings you back to the halcyon days of “Recovery Summer,” when we were all younger and optimistic that prosperity was just around the corner. Remember? (They were half right anyway. There was a summer.)

June 17, 2010: USA Today: “Biden touts ‘Recovery Summer’”

June 18, 2010: New York Times: “Obama hopes ‘Recovery Summer’ will warm voters to stimulus”

It’s enough to make you think the White House, and some in-the-tank headline writers, ought to calibrate their words differently.
