Fla. ‘Anti-Sharia bill’ officially dead

The effort to keep foreign laws out of Florida courts is over for the 2013 session.

The controversial bill, popularly known as the “Anti-Sharia bill,” was sponsored by Sen. Alan Hays, R-Umatilla. It was all but finished Thursday, after it failed to get two-thirds support to get to a floor vote.

To get to a vote Friday, it would have required unanimous support, which wasn’t going to happen.

Hays didn’t even try.

“Senator Hays did all he could to address this bill,” Senate President Don Gaetz said after Hays declined to seek the unanimous vote.
“The matter is now resolved for this session of the Legislature.”
