Glenn Beck, Fox News openly feud about why he left

It looks as if Fox News chief Roger Ailes is more than ready to ramp up any underlying differences he may have with former host Glenn Beck.

In responding to comments Beck made about why he left Fox News, a network spokesman didn’t pull any punches in saying Beck left because he was “trying to save his own ass.”

In a live interview Friday at NYU’s Stern School of Business, Beck said of his decision to leave Fox News: “I remember feeling, ‘If you do not leave now, you won’t leave with your soul intact.’”

Beck also suggested that Ailes actually urged him to stay. “At the end, when we were leaving, it was a long process,” Beck said. “Roger said to me, ‘You’re not going to leave.’ And I said, ‘I am.’ And he said, ‘Nobody does,’ meaning leave television… And I said, ‘I’m fortunate because I haven’t been in it that long.’ I knew what this big, huge Fox empire brought to the table, and I had to leave before I became too enamored of that.”

A Fox News spokesperson responded Monday to Beck’s comment, as reported by Politico:

“Glenn Beck wasn’t trying to save his soul, he was trying to save his ass. Advertisers fled his show and even Glenn knows what that means in our industry. Yet, we still tried to give him a soft landing. Guess no good deed goes unpunished.”

Ouch, there’s no love lost in that comment.

It remains to be seen if Beck takes the high road or fires back on his 3-hour radio show Tuesday, or during his television show later in the day, which is aired by his online television network, “The Blaze TV.”
