New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg confirmed at a press conference Thursday afternoon that the Boston Marathon bombing suspects admitted they were planning an attack on New York City.
Initial reports said Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother told investigators that they wanted to party in New York after the bombing.
“Last night we were informed by the FBI that the surviving attacker revealed that New York City was next on their list of targets,” Bloomberg said during the press conference. “We don’t know if we would have been able to stop the terrorists if they had arrived here from Boston. We’re just thankful we didn’t have to find out that answer. ”
New York City Police Dept. Commissioner Ray Kelly said the two brothers “had at their disposal six improvised explosive devices.” Dzhokhar is reported to have visited New York twice in the last year, once last April then again in November, according to Kelly. Police are trying to find out who was with him, where he may have visited, and if either visit were used to prepare for a future attack.
