A horrific explosion at a fertilizer plant in the small Texas town of West has injured hundreds and as many as 70 people are feared dead.
The blast took place Wednesday evening at the West Fertilizer Plant, about 18 miles north of Waco, according to CNN, sending a massive fireball into the sky and prompted a wide-scale evacuation in the community of 2,600 people due to ammonia fumes after the explosion.
The You Tube video below was posted on The Right Sphere and captures the incredible violence of the actual explosion.
Firefighters were already on the scene working to bring a fire under control when the explosion took place around 7:50 p.m, the local CBS affiliate reported. Officials have said firefighters are among the missing.
Chrystal Anthony, a nearby resident, said she saw the flames engulf a nursing home and an apartment complex, CNN reported.
“It was an apartment complex that was devastated, the nursing home. The fire was close to a residential area,” Anthony said.
A hospital in Waco, Texas, was told to anticipate dozens of injured people and a field triage station was set up on a football field near the plant after the explosion.
