In the latest example, this week, of the progressive left’s belief that the ends justify the means, Vice President Joe Biden appears to have been caught playing fast and loose with the truth again in support of President Obama’s push for gun control.
In an article published in the Midland Reporter-Telegraph, Biden said that Thursday’s classified presidential daily intelligence brief described “an al-Qaida principal” declaring on an al-Qaida website that supporters ought to “go to Washington and go to a gun show” because a fair portion of gun show sales bypass background checks.
“You can buy a semi-automatic weapon,” Biden characterized the al-Qaida official as saying, the Reporter-Telegraph reported. “It’s your obligation to do Jihad, and kill people, kill Americans. In other words, you radicals, what’s so gol’darn hard here? Just go to America and buy a gun.”
There’s one small problem with this claim, U.S.-raised al-Qaida spokesman Adam Gadahn said this back in June 2011 in a video urging radical Islamic militants to take advantage of American gun laws.
“America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms,” Gadahn said in a videotape reported by CNN. “You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely without having to show an identification card. So what are you waiting for?”
Andrew Arulanandam, director of public affairs for the National Rifle Association, said the vice president’s comments were “a typical, Joe Biden shoot-from-the-hip, ridiculous statement,” the Reporter-Telegraph noted.
He added that Biden’s effort is “a very well calculated political move by the White House to try and get as much support as they can for their gun control schemes.”
Confident in the knowledge that a complicit national media will not hold them accountable for their words and actions, this administration is throwing caution to the wind in the obsession to push through another signature issue in gun control.
An effort carefully designed to further secure Obama’s legacy for future generations.
