In her typical style of House floor speeches festooned with catchphrases but completely lacking in any logic known by humankind, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas launched into a rambling monologue on gun control — an issue not yet before that body.
“Don’t condemn the gangbangers,” she began, according to CNS News. “They’ve got guns that are trafficked.”
“Why? Because we don’t have sensible gun legislation.”
Although Jackson Lee made her pitch in support of stricter gun control legislation, she followed this statement up with, “[laws] that are not enforced, that are straw purchased and they come into places even that have strong gun laws.”
She then said she agreed with Republicans that enforcement of current laws was required.
“I’m going to agree with my friends on the other side of the isle. Our Republican friends, let’s enforce the gun laws that we have – – who would run away from that. That’s a sensible proposition. Put a resolution on the floor of the House – – let’s enforce gun laws that we have.”
So which is it? Do we need to enact stricter laws, or enforce those we already have? She really didn’t say in this speech, delivered in her typical oratorical style, as flamboyant as her usual mode of dress.
Jackson Lee represents the 18th Congressional district of Texas, and has been reelected to that position 9 times.
