History of FDR’s treatment of Jews gets a liberal spin

It’s been 68 years since Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s death, and the Jewish leftist revisionists are hard at work trying to recast this anti-Jewish president’s image to their community. The New York Times’ David Oshinsky recently reviewed a new book, “FDR and the Jews” by Richard Breitman and Allen J Lichtman, which is much kinder to Roosevelt’s memory than he was to Jews. I can just imagine, 68 years from now, my great-grandkids reading of the love President Barack Obama had for Israel and the Jewish people. As the years on the calendar change, so do the facts — as manipulated by liberals.

I lived during the Roosevelt/World War II years and remember the saintly image my folks had of him. He was the savior. He was the working man’s hero. He spoke to us through the radio, telling us everything would be all right. But whatever we knew of this man was merely a false image. Few knew he was incapable of walking. His wheelchair was never seen, thanks to orchestrated photo shoots. His debilitating illnesses were a secret. And of course, his hatred for Jews only leaked out years after his death. But given all that we now know of this man, he is still revered by liberal Jews, who say, “But look at his overall accomplishments.” After reading Oshinsky’s review, I turned to my 1994 copy of “The Secret War Against the Jews” by John Loftus and Mark Aarons. The pages devoted to the Roosevelt administration’s handling of the “Jewish problem” in Europe are devastating in their proof of Roosevelt’s dependence on Saudi King Ibn Saud and his Middle East policies.

Frankly, my concern is that the past gives us an all-too-clear picture of the future. Today, Jews are once again mesmerized with an idyllic Democratic figure — Barack Obama. His 20-plus years as a congregant in the anti-Jew/Israel church of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright is without any doubt. It’s disturbing that he refuses to accept any mention of radical Islam, Islamic jihad or Islamic terror. His hostile attitude to Israel is obvious, even to former Democrat Ed Koch.

No matter what we read in books by liberal pundits devoted to changing FDR’s image, we have to focus on how today’s leftist political structure still controls Jewish minds and votes. The damage FDR did to the Jewish people is now legend. But Obama’s threat, not only to Israel and the Jewish people but to American society as a whole, will be far more dangerous unless we turn the tide of history within the next few years.
